Traffic Warrants in Davis County
A traffic citation is filed with a court that has territorial jurisdiction. Under Utah Rule 4B, failing to appear by the required date can lead to a bench warrant. For cases that do not require an appearance, Justice Court Rule 4-701 describes fine increases and a possible FTA warrant after the listed time steps.
The court named on the citation matters. Davis County Justice Court, Clearfield and Syracuse Justice Courts, and Second District locations in Layton or Bountiful all handle different local cases. Kaysville ordinance matters route to Davis County Justice Court.
Davis County's Citation-to-FTA Timeline
The CORIS payment screen says a citation may take up to five days to file and manually filed citations can take longer. A missing account can mean no balance is owed, a filing delay, or the wrong search details. Clearfield Police says a citation may direct a court date 5–14 days after issue; Layton says to contact its court within 14 days of a criminal citation.
These notices are specific to the court and ticket. They do not set a single countywide deadline for every traffic case.
Checking a Davis County Traffic Warrant
Use the official payment search for a Davis County Justice Court citation when the case is filed and you have the court plus citation or case number. That account screen can show a balance, but its own notice says warrant holders should call the court at (801) 451-4488. For another court, use its own clerk and the statewide BCI search.
- Use the CORIS payment page with the correct court and citation or case number.
- Check BCI's statewide name search for a possible warrant and note the issuing court.
- Call Davis County Justice Court at (801) 451-4488, or the court printed on a city citation.
- If the record remains unclear, ask the court how to request your own public case record through GRAMA.
- Call before visiting; ask whether payment, full bail, or a judge appearance is required.
Searching CORIS by Court and Number
The payment page has a Court dropdown, a Citation or Court Case Number field, and a Search button. It warns that case numbers are unique to a court location. No result does not prove there is no warrant. Use the phone instruction on the screen if the record says a warrant exists, and do not keep guessing at different court locations.

Inside a Davis County Traffic Warrant
No sample person-level traffic warrant was copied. The local payment screen is an account lookup, not a verified warrant-result schema. Use the court and citation number to find the underlying case, then ask the clerk for status, the missed event, and the amount or appearance needed.
| Citation / case | Use the number on your citation; numbering varies by court. |
|---|---|
| Charge | Read the court file or ask the clerk; no sample result was captured. |
| Issuing court | Controls the citation, warrant, and recall instructions. |
| Fine / bail | Ask the court for the current amount and accepted method. |
| Status | Confirm active, served, paid, or recalled with the clerk. |
The Court on the Citation Controls
Clearfield citations go to Clearfield Justice Court; Syracuse handles city class-B and class-C cases and infractions; Layton criminal matters route to Second District Court; Bountiful's district location is a separate clerk. A Kaysville ordinance citation uses Davis County Justice Court under its city-code designation. Do not send a payment to the wrong court and assume a warrant cleared.
For a different county justice court, use the official agency directory to identify its contact. Court staff can tell you whether a record has been filed and what action is accepted.
How to Pay or Lift a Traffic Warrant
First ask the issuing clerk whether the warrant can be handled by payment or requires a judge. Davis County's FAQ says full payment may be needed; a new date by itself does not recall the warrant. Some mandatory-appearance charges must be handled by court action rather than online payment. Payment plans require judge approval.
- Confirm the court, case number, active status, and full amount with the clerk.
- Use an official method the court approves; keep the payment receipt or order.
- If a judge must act, get an appearance date and ask when the warrant is recalled.
- Check the court record again after the clerk's stated processing interval.
Warning: A traffic warrant is a court matter; paying a balance or receiving a new date does not prove that the warrant was recalled.
License Notices and Court Warrants Differ
A Driver License Division notice is not itself a court warrant. Davis County Justice Court directs license questions to DLD at (801) 965-4437 or (800) 222-0038. A DLD letter may still send the person back to the court, which can explain whether a separate warrant exists and what case action is due.
Do not assume that paying a ticket restores a license. Ask DLD about its notice and ask the issuing court about the warrant.
Traffic Warrants, FTA, and License Holds
These events can share a citation but have different effects. A traffic warrant is a court order after a missed date or other case event. FTA is the missed-appearance reason or process. A license hold comes from a separate state record and must be addressed with the appropriate court and DLD. Utah does not use capias as the standard Davis County label.
| Mechanism | What Triggers It | What It Does |
|---|---|---|
| Traffic warrant | Missed date or required court action. | Authorizes arrest and requires court resolution. |
| Failure to appear (FTA) | Missed a court setting or response deadline. | May lead to a bench warrant under Utah rules. |
| License notice | DLD record or notice concerning the case. | Address with DLD and confirm court status separately. |
Confirming a Paid Davis Citation
Davis County Justice Court says online payments update right away and the case closes the following day. Its FAQ recommends calling at least a week after mail, online, or phone payment to confirm closure. Keep the receipt and contact the clerk if the payment account or BCI entry still appears open.
A closed payment account and a recalled warrant are related but not interchangeable statuses. Ask the court to confirm both the warrant and the underlying case.
Layton's court process page sets out its own citation and FTA instructions.
